Tree

Today was kind of a weird day because it was the fourth day where I really spent a lot of time waiting. Waiting to see what would happen, when the other shoe would drop, who would still be working there, trying to focus on what I can do to improve everything. Then after work I stopped with a friend to offer comfort to another friend who won't be going back to the office tomorrow, and when I left I saw this.

It really made me wonder why we think what we do is so important, after all, when there's this.

It's not so much what we do as how we do it, I guess.

Look at me, I'm a freaking philosopher. Word.

That's what it comes down to at this point, though -- what platitude, what cliche, what thought gets you through the day?

Are all of these people in your team? Is this directly related to the economy? (or something else that is going on there).
Sorry.

No, not all on the team, but all work in the building. The problem is not the economy as much as the ruthless position my company has on its stock price. Trust me, they are making money.

This, however, is the most inept set of layoffs I have ever seen carried out. First, they did it over four days (two people on the first day, two on the second, four on the third, and one on the fourth). Secondly, the group that is the largest and most obvious set of non-producers has not yet been hit (although rumor is that they are next). Third, the managers have not yet approached people and said, look, we know this is uncomfortable and you're apprehensive, but you need to focus and get back to work. Instead, everyone in the building walks into every room expecting to be hit in the face.

You can only imagine the hit to productivity. And, truth be told, general happiness of those left.

It's miserable.

Yes, work still sucks, but I want to go back to the tree for just a second.

We were heading to a local watering hole and I told PGL that there was this cool tree over near there that I wanted to get a good picture of (Incidentally, a preposition is not a good thing to end a sentence with. But I digress.) She said "Oh, yeah, I know that tree. It was the one I put a picture of on my blog." I didn't think it looked like the tree I was talking about until we got over there... She took a picture of the tree from above and on the opposite side - I usually see this tree from ground level (looking up toward the watering hole establishment). But yes, it is in fact the very same tree.

What can I say? Just a little more proof that PGL is a perfect match for me (like I needed any more proof).

I hope no one vomits when I say that, well, this is as happy as I expect -- or want -- to get.

((But I am incredulously, loathsomely happy)

Any comments should be excused.

Jus' sayin' .
